I had my flywheel lightened to 11 lbs. It was ideally set to be lightened specifically to 12.5 lbs., but most of the material was remonved in the middle and I wanted the edge ground down more. Anyway, I can't really tell if the the lightened GSR flywheel yielded positive results until I install the Type R flywheel.
In other words, I can't tell if the rpm's are reaching redline quickly was the result of the lightened flywheel or the increased power of the supercharger. My theory is that once the Type R flywheel is in, the revs will be a little slower, but I'm hoping to gain a little torque in exchange.
Truthfully, I was really worried about the flywheel being too light. It turned out to be really easy to drive. Never stalled or chattered. Just didn't have the "oomph" feel after the SC install and I think that may have to do the with the flywheel rotational mass (or lack thereof).
In all, even at 11 lbs., it's easy to drive. The flywheel's just horribly thin! That's the reason I'm installing the Type R flywheel. By the way, anyone know the weight differences between the GSR and Type R flywheels?

Thanks guys for all the help. I talked with a shop that I think will do the install of the clutch, diff and flywheel. They quoted me about $585 labor for all that. What do you guys think?? Also if I have the factory flywheel lightened how much can I go, weight wise? Is 11-14 is what I would be looking for...

I have the 10 lb JUN flywheel in my civic. However, my idle seems to be very low. Does a lightened flywheel lead to a decreased idle? Do your JUN equipped cars have this "problem"

I've got the 8lb (?) aluminum flywheel from CM and have noticed a low idle too... I wonder if that could be what its from.

Do not lighten your stock flywheel. This is bad. Normaly when it is lightened you lose material that you need to make it strong. Lightening it causes it to be week and you may throw it out of your transmission. I'd go with an aftermarket lighter flywheel or a Type R. Clutchmasters flywheel is very good and also rebuildable.
